Why does CVMS Music Boosters organization exist?

In 2001 the San Dieguito Union High School District announced that it was terminating the instrumental music program at CVMS due to lack of available funds. In response to an outpouring of parental support for the program, the district agreed to provide funding for a single instrumental music instructor, but eliminated funding for all other expenses such as sheet music, sectional tutoring, instrument purchase and repair, etc. To fill the void created by the reduction in funding, and to ensure that a top quality musical education would continue to be available at CVMS, concerned parents organized to create Carmel Valley Middle School Music Boosters, Inc. 

 

Carmel Valley Middle School Music Boosters, Inc. is an independent, not for profit 501(c)(3) corporation led by Officers and Board Members who are parents of CVMS instrumental music students. The Music Boosters supports the CVMS music program in two basic ways: 

 

Fundraising

The Music Boosters solicits donations each year, primarily at the beginning of the school year, to be used to defray the costs that are not absorbed by the school district.

 

Volunteering

The Music Boosters keeps its expenses low by relying on parents who donate their time. Whether you can help for a single event, or throughout the year, your gift of time is greatly appreciated. Board members meet monthly to discuss budget and fundraising, upcoming concerts and events, volunteer opportunities and find creative ways to grow our music department. In addition to board member roles, we are always in need of chaperones for class trips and music festivals, a social media coordinator, photographers, concert and cashbox assistants, etc. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please email Mr. Patterson or click here to complete the interest form.
