Welcome to the award-winning music program at Carmel Valley Middle School!  Music Director Scott Drechsel leads the program of approximately 150 students participating in 6 music ensembles:

  • Bobcat Orchestra - Beginning/intermediate orchestra.

  • Chamber Orchestra - Advanced orchestra.

  • Bobcat Band - Beginning band.

  • Symphonic Band - Intermediate band.

  • Wind Ensemble - Advanced band.

  • Jazz Band - Club that practices during lunch period and is not a class.  By audition only.

Orchestra is for string instruments, while band includes brass, winds and percussion.  Band and Orchestra placement auditions for incoming students are currently by appointment only for new students.   Beginning students do not need to audition.  For more information and to sign up for an audition, visit Mr. Drechsel’s website http://scottdrechsel.com.  Auditions for the Jazz Band are in the fall.

What’s special about the Music Program at CVMS?

  • Unlike many other middle schools, CVMS provides instruction to beginning and brand new music students.  Many students start playing instruments in seventh grade and continue into high school, and beyond.

  • In addition to attending class, the student ensembles travel to music festivals, perform evening concerts, and participate in school or community events.

  • The music program at CVMS is not fully funded by the District.  Through generous parent donations, CVMS Music Boosters, Inc. pays for instrument specialists to provide coaching, festival entry fees and transportation, instruments, and more.

The Music Boosters Parent Meeting presentation below (from September 19th, 2017) is a good resource for more information about the CVMS music program and how Music Boosters works to support the program :
