Why does the CVMS Music Boosters organization exist?
In 2001 the San Dieguito Union High School District announced that it was terminating the instrumental music program at CVMS due to lack of available funds. In response to an outpouring of parental support for the program, the district agreed to provide funding for a single instrumental music instructor, but eliminated funding for all other expenses such as sheet music, sectional tutoring, instrument purchase and repair, etc. To fill the void created by the reduction in funding, and to ensure that a top quality musical education would continue to be available at CVMS, concerned parents organized to create Carmel Valley Middle School Music Boosters, Inc.
Carmel Valley Middle School Music Boosters, Inc. is an independent, not for profit 501(c)(3) corporation led by Officers and Board Members who are parents of CVMS instrumental music students. The Music Boosters supports the CVMS music program in two basic ways:
(1) Fundraising - the Music Boosters solicits donations each year, primarily at the beginning of the school year, to be used to defray the costs that are not absorbed by the school district.
(2) Volunteering - the Music Boosters seeks out parent volunteers willing to assist with concerts, photograph performances, coordinate email blasts about matters relevant to the music program, distribute polo shirts, chaperone trips, etc. It is our goal to have a single Board Member representing each band and orchestra (one each for periods 1-5) to help coordinate volunteer activities.
Carmel Valley Middle School Music Boosters, Inc. an independent 501(c)3 organization, is commited to serving and assisting the CVMS music program and educators through fundraising, promotion and support as well as encouraging musical appreciation among CVMS students, parents and friends.
